Reflecting on Niagara’s Women in Politics Evening, Meet the Candidates, October 1, 2026, at the Black Sheep Coffee Roasters in Welland
In spite of my very busy week, door to door campaigning in Ward 2, Town of Pelham, and giving my one and only three-minute speech at the Legion two days previous, I chose to attend this very important leadership event, showcasing the local political landscape of amazing Niagara Women Candidates, who, like me, bravely chose to throw the proverbial “hat in the ring” and campaign in this Municipal Election 2026, bringing our strong voices and much needed balance to our local Municipal Governments.
This evening of conversation and camaraderie was organized by none other than Pelham’s very own past Niagara Regional Councillor, Diana Huson, co-chair of Equal Voice Niagara. Although Diana has stepped back from entering this particular election, she IS the encouraging force behind so many Candidates, me included. Thank you, Diana! You already know how your trailblazing for Women in Politics inspires me!
What a night it was! We felt free to express our deep concerns for our communities and demonstrate, just by being present, the strength and resilience we can bring to our Councils, if elected, because we ARE already doing this every day in our busy daily lives. Where we live and the people who are a part of it – our community- matter the very most to us. It is just a part of who we are. A highlight was to listen to outgoing and retiring Mayor Sandra Easton of the Municipality of Lincoln motivate us, encourage us and validate us. It IS possible to bring this special balance to Council! These women are living proof!
Thanksgiving is, without a doubt, the special time of year where we express gratitude to those around us. I would like to do this by expressing my appreciation to the people who make our Town of Pelham whole. I am most thankful for the Ward 2 residents who have opened their doors to me, listened to me, questioned and challenged me. Along with my dear supportive friends and loved ones, we are all working tirelessly to build a more inclusive, vibrant, strong, beautiful Pelham.
Wishing you and your loved ones a safe and bountiful Thanksgiving!
